Sony has asked a court to dismiss a class-action lawsuit against it first filed last November alleging sexism within the company.
Former Sony IT security analyst Emma Majo sought court approval to move her case into a class-action lawsuit last year on behalf of other women who had worked for the company. in the past. She alleges that “Sony discriminates against female employees, including those who are female and those who identify as female, in pay and promotion and subject them to a culture of predominantly male,” as reported by Axios last year.
Now, Sony is asking a court to dismiss Majo’s class-action lawsuit against it, citing a lack of facts to support the claims presented in the lawsuit, Axios report.
“Despite the breadth of her case, the allegations in it [Sony Interactive Entertainment] categorically refuses, she does not present facts to support her own claims or the claims of the classes of women she seeks to represent,” attorneys for Sony write, according to court documents.
Furthermore, Sony writes in the documents that Majo failed to identify “a single policy, practice, or procedure at SIE that is believed to have formed the basis for any widespread intentional discrimination.” or have a discriminatory effect on women,” and “Majo’s widespread harassment claims are based solely on unfeasible allegations of factory worker activity. ”
Sony is also asking the court to recognize what it calls a conflict of interest. Majo’s lawsuit includes an attempt to include all women who have worked for SIE. Sony says this will include all of Majo’s managers as of 2017, all of whom are women. Sony’s lawyers said that if those managers were included in the lawsuit against Sony, an “irreconcilable conflict of interest” would arise.
Only time will tell if the court will grant Sony’s request to dismiss the case.
