Sonic Fans, Don’t Get Your Hopes for a Standalone Chao Garden Game
Sonic Adventure And Sonic Adventure 2 beloved by Sonic fans, but not just for the fast-paced Sonic (or Shadow) gameplay or the upbeat music. Chao Garden, a side activity in both games, remains a favorite to this day, and fans have been dying to see a standalone Chao Garden game where we can pet our cute little creatures.
However, perhaps we should start tempering our expectations: in an interview with VGCSonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said there are no plans for a standalone Chao game as it is a “part” of other games.
“It’s not a standalone game,” Iizuka-san told VGC (via a translator) “it’s integrated into the entire gameplay of the Adventure series, so we can’t just separate it and make it one thing. And so it’s like, okay, if you ask for Chao Garden and Adventure 3, then you’re basically asking for Adventure 3.”
Part of the fun of Chao Gardens in Sonic Adventure and its sequel is finding little creatures in the wild and bringing them back to the garden. For Sonic Team, it’s an integral part of the experience, so it would be pretty hard to take all of that away.
Of course, if it were part of Sonic Adventure 3, that would be exciting for fans. But that’s not in the plans right now, according to Iizuka: “It’s just one of those things where if, if the stars align and it all happens, then yeah, we’d love to do it.” Maybe someday…
As VGC noted, there was a rumor earlier this year that a mobile game focused on raising Chao was in development (via Game Rant)However, that rumor came from Midori, who leaked information about Sega but has now lost credibility.
Meanwhile, there is always Loddlenauta standalone game Inspired by Chao Garden focusing on ocean cleaning. It’s not exactly the same, but there aren’t many games that have taken inspiration from this fun side activity in the Sonic series. And it looks great.
