Snapchat launches on the web – allows users to log in without a mobile phone | Science & Technology News

Snapchat today launched Snapchat for Web, a browser-based app for users to access the messaging platform without picking up their phones.

It will allow users – initially just Snapchat+ subscribers in the UK and elsewhere – to access the social media company’s calling and messaging features online.

The company says it plans to roll out the feature – including signing in at web.snapchat.com using a web browser like Chrome or Firefox – to all users “soon”.

While only the main messaging features will be immediately available on the web app, including Snaps, Lenses for video calls will be added soon.

The move shows that the age of Snapchat’s user base is changing, as browser-based apps are generally preferred by desktop and laptop users.

According to DataReportal, about 80% of Snapchat’s ad audience is 18 years or older, with rival app TikTok currently growing the most among the under-18s.

Snapchat says the move is driven by “a lot of people in our community spending more time online, whether that’s studying or working remotely, streaming, or just casual browsing.” “.

“We saw a huge opportunity to make it easier for our community to stay connected throughout the day, and we can’t wait to bring our favorite basic Snapchat features,” Snapchat said. on the web”.

Web app safety measures include a privacy screen that hides the Snapchat Web window and user chats if they click to perform another action.
