Smith believes it’s ‘truth’ He can hurt Eubank Jr after arguing
Liam Smith is set to take on Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday night as Boxxer and Sky Sports kick off a successful 2023. Before the match, ‘Beefy’ revealed that he once hurt Eubank in a duel and is confident of doing it again.
Smith won the world championship when he blocked Apollo Thompson in 2015 in the seventh round. Recently, he seems to be on track to achieve another title at the following 154lb three consecutive knockout wins.
However, now the intrepid diver will be up to 160 lb for the fight at Eubank. In one interview with talkSportSmith explained that he had previously hurt Chris Eubank Jr in a duel.
He believes weight is the only reason his opponent entered the match as the favorite.
“I know Chris Eubank is an uphill battle. You know, he’s a middleweight boxer and that’s why this fight is a 50/50 fight or why everyone can support Chris.
“People don’t think Chris Eubank Jr is a better boxer than me. If this fight is at 154 lbs, then I’m the favorite in this fight. I’m going to 160 lbs.
“I know for a fact that I hurt him while fencing. So I knew I could hurt him, especially with 10-ounce gloves on, especially with 160 lbs.”
‘Beefy’ goes on to suggest that Eubank is not as comfortable in the middle as he claims and that he has struggled to make 157lb for himself exciting match with Conor Benn, the last match was canceled.
“He didn’t put a 157lbs limit on Conor [Benn], he put up that picture and he weighed 159.3 lbs. You know, he’s trying to fool the public, he’s not as good at weightlifting as he claims to be.”
“So a lot will be answered in this 160 lbs fight.”
Smith and Eubank will go head-to-head this Saturday, topping a a card featuring the likes of Joseph Parker, Richard Riakporhe and the British Belt War between Richard Riakporhe and Chris Kongo.
The event will be available for purchase on Sky Sports PPV for £19.95.
