Slutty Vegan Founder Pinky Cole Walks Into The Shade Room to Talk About Her Successful Restaurant Empire, Buying a Whole Home in Atlanta, and More! (To exclude, to expel)

Roommate, if you live in Atlanta, you already know Pinky Cole and her wildly successful restaurant empire. Slutty Vegan—And now that her business has enjoyed major success with expansion, she steps into The Shade Room to tell us all about it!

In just 4 short years, Pinky Cole has turned Slutty Vegan into a phenomenon, placing her on the ‘Forbes Next 1000’ and ‘Business Magazine’s 100 Most Powerful Women’ lists. We spoke to her privately about her success, what’s to come, and more.

Starting with her first Atlanta location, Cole explained to us why she chose vegan food to start her career. “I founded Slutty Vegan in 2018 because I was craving some vegan food late one night. I was just sitting in my bedroom, and it came to me. There isn’t any crazy backstory to the idea. I started with a ghost kitchen and realized I was solving a problem that other people had. Slutty Vegan is a fun way to re-imagine food and I helped vegan cravings. It was the first Slutty Vegan, do it my way, with my blueprints, and don’t care what people have to say,” she said.

You’ll quickly notice that Slutty Vegan restaurants are located in predominantly Black neighborhoods, which Pinky Cole says is no coincidence. “There are a lot of strong black cultural connections in Atlanta, and it was really important to me to give back to the city’s black community through the Slutty Vegan and the Pinky Cole Foundation,” she explains. . There is such a strong sense of community in Slutty Vegan. We place all of our positions in food deserts and areas where we know we can make communities better.”

She definitely keeps her word about making the Atlanta community better, as she and her partner Derrick Hayes (who recently featured in ‘ESSENCE’) recently purchased an entire block of property. in the city with major expansion plans:

“Yes, we are not just restaurants but business partners dedicated to creating positive change in today’s society by impacting our communities. So Derrick and I bought blocks and will continue to buy blocks and do what we can [supply] Neighborhoods in need. We plan to develop community centers for youth, continue to provide employment and spread the knowledge we have. We want to share what we’ve learned with our community. Our latest initiative is Square 1: Life Experience Initiative launching in June 2021. Square 1 aims to provide life insurance to 25,000 black men by 2023. for which they do not have to pay. We cooperate with Prudential. This is just another way we are collectively using our platforms to support and influence the communities that support us in all we do! ”

Cole and Hayes were recently brought into the national spotlight thanks to a glossy cover story with ‘ESSENCE’, and she admits it was a dream come true! “Growing up it was always a dream to be on the cover of ‘ESSENCE’ and now I can say that not only did I accomplish that goal, but I was able to do it with my partner. We made history with the cover of Black History month and were the first restaurateurs to be on the cover. ‘ESSENCE’ traditionally includes entertainers, but we broke the internet, and our cover worked incredibly well. We want every young person coming to know that they can achieve their wildest dreams. I’m a girl from East Baltimore, a bit rough around but I’m the CEO of the world famous Slutty Vegan! ”

Speaking of the strong reaction to Slutty Vegan, Cole says it has been an incredible journey. “I’m really excited at how Slutty Vegan has been received across the country and beyond. I’m actually solving a problem for myself and the community. I knew I was on the right track with Slutty Vegan as people were inspired and motivated by my work. It feels great to have my community take me so seriously.”

However, Pinky Cole isn’t just focused on her solo journey as a successful millennial waitress — and she hopes her story can inspire others. followed in her footsteps. She said, “Slutty Vegan is something I really believe in. I want people to live better, eat better and think better. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always wanted to be my own boss. I want to create opportunities for myself and create opportunities for others. My advice is to find something that you love and believe in no matter what other people say. Also, never forget your community and give back as much as you can. ”

We want to see this richness of #BlackGirl Magic on full screen and can’t wait to see what Pinky Cole and her Slutty Vegan empire do next!
