Slight changes to the principles of sovereignty awards
The Jockey Club of Canada, which recognizes excellence in Canadian thoroughbred breeding and racing with its annual Sovereign Awards, is making changes to guidelines for several awards, including valid for the current year.
Directly from the Jockey Club Management are the following changes:
first). The title recipient for the division horse award will be the owner of the horse since the last start of the year of the award and, if that owner is not a breeder, the breeder named on the Certificate of Origin. Jockey Club registration certificate can receive a title like Good.
2). The owner of the Outstanding Broodmare at the end of the awarding year will be the sole recipient of that award and title.
The Groom of Excellence Award – not a recognized Sovereign Award – is also given along with the awards. Again, from the Board of Directors:
3). Nominees must hold a valid Thoroughbred license in the province of Ontario.
Previous nominees were restricted to licensed coaches and assistant coaches. The nomination period for the Outstanding Groom award is now open through December 11.
