SJ Moore raring for positive challenge with new UST teammates

MANILA, Philippines—After highly regarded recruitment of SJ Moore committing to the University of Santo Tomas is the inevitable challenge that comes with it.

For Moore, a prominent high school player, playing alongside the Roaring Tigers was a positive challenge for the future.

“Most of the UST players are very skilled so it’s a competition for me to match or even surpass them,” Moore said at a press conference in Quezon City on Friday.

“I find it an interesting challenge to have them as teammates.”

Moore will join key playmaker Paul Manalang, foreign student athlete Adama Faye and sniper athlete Nic Cabañerowhom Moore said he was excited to play with.

Cabañero, who led UST in points for UAAP Season 85, was the first to reach Moore after confirming his move to España.

“He texted me first and asked if we could meet. I appreciate that,” told Moore.

While newly appointed trainer Pido Jarencio was also excited to see Moore take on the challenge of competing with his fellow tigers, the trainer made it clear that the cage manager still has a way to go. long before reaching its potential.

“He is a player with full potential but there is still a lot of room for improvement for him. He needs to improve his fitness and his forehand dribbling but that can be developed, especially when my coaching staff is full of defenders,” explains Jarencio.

Joining the former Northport coach on the bench for UST next season are his point defenders ex-Jeric Fortuna and Japs Cuan.

Jarencio also admitted that he has high hopes for former Arellano Brave but said he still has to find the right roles for players from UST, including the newly acquired winger. Gabriel Obusan.

“Expectations are yes and no but if he gets his part plus chemistry, our team will be mighty.”

While playing alongside deadly UST scorers influenced Moore’s decision, another key aspect of the NBTC All-Star Game MVP’s decision was his belief in his system. Jarencio.

“His background is really good. When he coached UST before, they became champions and my faith in him grew because of that. I know that I will improve a lot because he will handle me.”

Moore came out in his only season for Arellano with 19.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.3 assists and 1.3 saves before his move. to UST.
