Beauty Eternal has won four of her five career starts | HKJC

The 4-year-old Hong Kong Classic Series ends with the HK$24 million BMW Hong Kong Derby on Sunday at Sha Tin Racecourse, and while no one confuses any runners out of 14 athletes registered to participate in the Golden Sixty Horse of the Year (Australia) (Medaglia d’Oro), who became the second person to sweep the series in 2020, or last year’s winner Romantic Warrior (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), who has racked up multiple Group 1 wins in the no-limit group For example, it’s a race that is – in theory – open.
Journey Bubbles (Australia) (Deep Field {Aus}) was the lead in the first leg of the series, the Hong Kong Classic Mile, as Jamie Kah lulls them to sleep, but, as commentator Mark McNamara put it, ‘bubbles’ 300 meters from the rope in the Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) when he easily surrendered and Super Sunny Sing (Aus) (Nicconi {Aus}) whistled home to Golden Sixty rider Vincent Ho. None of those gallopers would be imagined to add the second leg in the Derby, but rather Eternal Beauty (Aus) (Sparkling banner {Aus}) is likely to be a favorite despite the premiere of his Classic series. Zac Purton, who won the 2015 Derby aboard the Luger (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}), rode from gate seven for the later John Size trainer. The longtime top operator is looking for a fourth win at the domestic center, all since 2012.
“I think it’s fine,” Size said of the draw. “Zac has options from there and I’m sure he’ll have a better idea of what he wants to do depending on the people around him, but I think seven is fine. That doesn’t seem like a huge disadvantage.”
Super Sunny Sing will deserve the fans’ fair share after the quick ending victory Earning Points (Aus) (American Pharoah) in the Classic Cup, while Galaxy Witness (Australia) (Star Witness {Aus}) also finished strong from the bottom of the field to finish third last weekend.

Nominally co-featured on Sunday is the G1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Trophy across seven tournaments, in which G1 winner Longines Hong Kong Mile California Spangle (Ire) (Sparkling banner {Aus}) is a strong favorite compared to the two most recent winners of the race–Waikuku (Ire) (Harbour Watch {Ire}) 2021 and last year’s winners Wellington (Australia) (It’s all too hard {Aus}).
