Six soldiers arrested on drugs and money offences just days before Jubilee celebrations | UK News

Six serving soldiers were arrested on suspicion of drug supply conspiracy, money lending and money laundering.

Six members of the Irish Guards were arrested along with a Coldstream Guard veteran this week during an operation led by the Royal Military Police.

The regiment will lead the Army of Color on Thursday, June 2, as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations.

But the Defense Department said captured soldiers would not participate.

A Department of Defense spokesman said: “As part of the planned operation, the Royal Military Police arrested six Irish Guardsmen and one former Coldstream Guards member from across the UK on suspicion suspected drug supply conspiracy, money lending and money laundering.

“None of the soldiers under investigation will participate in the planned parades during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

“The military does not tolerate any kind of illegal or fraudulent behavior.

“As this is currently the subject of an independent investigation by the Royal Military Police, it is not appropriate to comment further.”

A source at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, where the 1st Irish Guards Battalion is based, told The Sun: “They came in like the DEA (US Drug Enforcement Agency) – knocking down the doors.

“There were no warnings at all. We were told they had been planning the operation for months.

“It wasn’t just the barracks. They ransacked the homes of the soldiers off-base. It all came as a huge shock.”
