Sir Andy Murray honors Queen’s ‘wonderful life’ | Davis Cup ‘an opportunity to honor her and all she’s done’ | Tennis News

Sir Andy Murray paid homage to the Queen.

He will represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow this week and sees the event as an opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s event.

“Obviously it’s been a very sad week with the news of the Queen’s passing, but I think this will be an opportunity for people to show how much she means to everyone,” he said. Sky Sports News.

Murray was knighted after winning his second Wimbledon and Olympic gold medal.

The Queen will be remembered at the Davis Cup, he said. “I am sure there will be songs sung and silence observed for a minute,” continued Murray.

“She’s clearly had a great life and I think here, a few days when GB play, will be an opportunity to honor her and all that she’s done.

“I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to compete against her and compete at Wimbledon when she came to watch, it’s a really nice memory for me.”

England will face the US in the Davis Cup group stage on Wednesday. Murray would love to be part of the GB team that includes Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans and world No 1 doubles Joe Salisbury.

“It’s an opportunity for us to use all the players on the team,” added Murray. “It’s quite interesting.

“It’s a little different [this time]. Obviously we have a very strong, deep team, which hasn’t always happened over the past 20 years. Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski will initially play quite a few games together. After that, I played mostly singles and doubles matches for a period of time.

“Obviously it’s great to be playing the Davis Cup again, representing Great Britain again, I’ve always enjoyed doing it, especially at the Emirates,” he added.

Murray hopes the occasion will be special. “We played some great matches here against the incredible atmosphere,” he said.

“I think we have a strong team and hopefully we can do well.”
