What I love most about this sourdough whiskey recipe is how simple it is. There are several ways and variations to sour whiskey, but here’s a simple version with a sour mix and no egg whites.
What’s in sour whiskey?
The recipe below features three ingredients (plus garnish): whiskey, sour mix, and a little club soda. If you don’t have the sourdough and can’t make it, you can substitute it (see recipe notes).
This classic cocktail reminds me of one of my all-time favorite cocktails: a sidecar. It’s simple to make, on the slightly spicy side, but still really refreshing with a generous dose of citrus.

Simple Whiskey, make 1
2 ounces of whiskey
2 ounces sour mix

Place the whiskey and sour mixture in a small iced glass. Give it a stir. Kick off the drink with a large glass of club soda. If you want to garnish the drink, try seasoning with lemon, zest, or cherries.

If you don’t have a sour mix and don’t want to waste time making it, here’s an alternative: Combine 2 ounces of whiskey, 2 ounces of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of powdered sugar in a cocktail mixer with ice. Shake well to dissolve sugar. Strain and serve over ice.
