Sifu gets a live-action adaptation of John Wick’s Derek Kolstad – Report



The video game Kung fu beat ’em up Sifu is said to be getting a live-action film adaptation. Limit line be the first to report.

The film will be adapted and produced in collaboration between Story Kitchen and game studio Sloclap, with Story Kitchen partner Derek Kolstad (John Wick) adapting the script. Joining Kolstad is a team of producers who have been working on a team of upcoming video game adaptations, including Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog 2) and Dan Jevons (Streets of Rage).

Released earlier this year in February, Sifu Earn brilliant reviews for being a satisfyingly challenging action title with a sharp learning curve. GameSpot’s Richard Wakeling calls the game “thrilling” in his reviewpraising the “unique aging mechanic and top-notch fighting ability” and “the journey from a stubborn student to a wise kung fu master.”

Kolstad is also writing a new film based on Sega’s beat-up series, Streets of Rage. In November, the movie is said to be found a distributor in Lionsgate. It’s not yet known when production will begin or any cast highlights. Back in 2017, Kolstad was invited to write and produce a proposed television series based on the Hitman . video game series. In 2019, he was also invited to write and produce a live-action film adaptation of the Just Cause game franchise.

Kolstad isn’t the only John Wick alum to take on video game assets. Director Chad Stahelski is working on a Ghost of Tsushima movie for Sony, and the recent film brought back writer Takashi Doscher.
