Should You Use AI to Build Your Resume? 64% of Recruiting Professionals Approve

Bundling all of your professional, leadership, and extracurricular experience into one package can be stressful — especially since a resume is such a crucial component of getting a job. Luckily, artificial intelligence (AI) can make the task more manageable and the fact is that most hiring managers are not opposed to it.

Adobe surveyed over 500 recruiting professionals and 500 job seekers in the United States to learn about the resume writing process. Unsurprisingly, many of the candidates surveyed have leveraged AI on their resumes, with 28% of respondents admitting to using AI to help write their resumes.

This use case for AI has met with limited resistance from recruiting professionals, with 64% of job seekers approving of using AI for their resumes.

Before you use AI to write your resume, it’s worth noting that 13% of hiring professionals say they would automatically reject a resume written with AI. But for better or worse, there’s no AI Testing are available on the market today, so as long as you check thoroughly for plagiarism, the hiring professional will not be able to tell.

Recruiting experts share that other warning signs they see on resumes include spelling or grammar errors, lack of relevant experience or skills, too many job changes in a short period of time, significant unexplained gaps in work history, and overly casual use of language.

AI can easily help users avoid these red flags. For example, a user can upload their resume to ChatGPT and ask, “Can you proofread the spelling and grammar, remove any overly colloquial language, and add skills that would make the article better?” ChatGPT will then spit out a refined version with all of these elements.

Best practices for job seekers to keep in mind include limiting resumes to one page, preferred by 55% of hiring professionals; using the PDF format, preferred by three out of four hiring professionals; and emphasizing unique skills, recommended by 29.68% of hiring professionals.
