The man suspected of killing seven people and injuring dozens during the Independence Day parade in Chicago will face 117 charges.
Robert E Crimo III was arrested by police hours after he opened fire on a crowd during a 4th of July celebration in Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago.
Over 70 rounds aimed at families partying from a high-powered assault rifle.
The killer was wear women’s clothes to blend in so they can escape scene.
The state attorney general’s office has now confirmed Crimo will be charged with 117 counts related to that day, including 21 counts of first-degree murder.
If convicted, he faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.
The 21-year-old has not been released on bail since his arrest.
Prosecutors allege Mr Crimo planned the attack for weeks, before climbing onto the rooftop and opening fire on marching spectators on July 4.
The Smith & Wesson semi-automatic rifle, similar to the AR-15, used in the shooting was found at the scene.
It comes amid a number of mass shootings in the US that have renewed the debate about gun violence in the country.
A shooting attack in UvaldeTexas, which killed 19 students and two teachers, and a racially motivated shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, that left 10 people dead.

Investigators have reviewed several videos Mr. Crimo posted on social media that appear to contain violent imagery.
A spokesman for the local Lake County sheriff’s office said the suspect had lawfully purchased five firearms, all assault rifles and pistols, despite being brought to the attention of police twice before for his alleged conduct. allegations that may cause harm to yourself or others.
Prayer for the dead
Immediately after the attack at the parade, a statement released via Twitter from Mr. Crimo’s parents said their hearts went out to the victims.
They said: “We are all fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers, and this is a terrible tragedy for the many families, victims, marchers, communities and our own. “Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to everyone.”
