According to sources, the shooting happened on the afternoon of Thursday, September 19. According to a Facebook excerpt reposted by Kentucky State PoliceAuthorities received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 2:55 p.m. The call was said to be “in reference to gunshots being fired from inside the building.”
When “several law enforcement agencies” and “emergency medical services” arrived at the courthouse, they reportedly found Judge Kevin Mullins “suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.”
“Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful. The Letcher County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced Mullins dead at the scene,” the government’s Facebook post stated.
Additionally, the statement noted that a preliminary investigation determined that Sheriff Stines fatally shot Judge Mullins following “an argument inside the courthouse.”
