Shed mosthedevil (Daredevil) filmed her greatest victory scene for the GII Fleur de Lis S. Saturday and returned home as a winner for the first time since attending the venue’s GIII Locust Grove S. in September. It was her sixth win in seven starts at Churchill Downs with one second.
The second choice is light behind Pauline’s Pearl (Tapit), who defeated her in GI La Troienne S. On May 6, Shedhesthedevil glided up to follow the second word as the Super fast (Super Saver) fixed the original separation of :24.13 and :47.83. Turning up the heat at the top of the ramp, the bay plunges into the pacesetter at the eighth pole and is clear to score. Super Quick holds second place behind Pauline’s Pearl.
“We’re really proud of the race she ran today,” said coach Brad Cox. “We have been targeting this race for a long time. She loves it here at Churchill Downs and Florent [Geroux] gave her the perfect ride. It’s been a tough field but I trusted her when I saw her position rounding the turn that she would have enough left to chase. [Super Quick]. “
“We were in a perfect position on the whole track,” said Geroux. “Inside the eighth pole, she started to find her best stride and left late. She came back.”
At $100,000 weaning of KEENOV, Shedhesthedevil was purchased by Flurry Racing for $280,000 at the end of her juvenile season during the 2019 KEENOV sale. Qatar Racing stayed as a partner and they joined by Big Aut Farm. She won a class III doubles in 2020 before claiming eventual champion Swiss Skydiver (Daredevil) at 15-1 at GI Kentucky Oaks. GII winner Azeri S. and GI La Troienne started 2021, the bay finished third ahead of champion Letruska (Super Saver) in the GI Ogden Phipps S. in Belmont that summer and returned victorious in performance trip to Del Mar for GI Clement Hirsch S. She followed up with her Locust Grove win, but was only able to claim sixth place in the SoCal for GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff in November.
Sent through the Fasig sale in November again, Shedhesthedevil was the second highest priced product, bringing in $5 million from Mandy Pope’s Whispering Hill with Flurry and Qatar staying as partners. Coming in third behind GII winner Princess Rooney S. on Saturday and sprint champion Ce Ce (Elusive Quality) at Azeri March 12 of this year, Shedhesthedevil was run down late by Pauline’s Pearl when sighted. Shedhesthedevil is one half to GSP Mojovation (Quality Sugar). Her Starship Warpspeed dam is also responsible for the underrated 3-year-old Blackheartedgypsy (Speightster), a no-miracle teenager named Jupiter Mooon (The Inflator), a pony yearned by Uncle Mo and a 2022 of that Coolmore stallion.
