Shashi Tharoor Hits Back At BJP Over Pervez Musharraf Tweet, Asks This
Criticized by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for calling former Pakistani President and Army Chief of Staff Pervez Musharraf, who died on Sunday, a “real force for peace”, a senior parliamentary leader. Shashi Tharoor today responded to BJP. He questioned why the previous BJP government under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had negotiated a ceasefire with Musharraf.
“The question for BJP leaders is foaming at the mouth: if Musharraf is hated by all patriotic Indians, then why did the BJP Government negotiate a ceasefire with him in 2003 and sign the declaration joint Vajpayee-Musharraf 2004? Resist harsh criticism from top BJP leaders for his message of condolence, Shashi Tharoor previously said he “grew up in an India where you had to speak kindly to people when they died”.
“I grew up in India where you had to say kind words to people when they died. Musharraf was a mortal enemy and was responsible for Kargil but he worked for peace with India, for his own sake, 2002-2007. He’s not a friend but he sees a strategic interest in peace, so do we,” said Mr. Tharoor.
Congressman first condolence tweetsoon after news of his death sparked a flurry of accusations and rebuttals.
“Pervez Musharraf, Former President of Pakistan, Dies Of Rare Disease’: Once India’s arch-enemy, he became a veritable force for peace 2002-2007,” said Mr Tharoor. wrote on Twitter first about the issue.
“I met him every year on those days at @un and found him to be smart, engaging and with a clear strategic mindset. RIP,” said the former foreign minister.
Mr Tharoor’s post was met with fierce criticism from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar beat Mr. Tharoorsays that his post “best describes Public” (Parliament).
Mr. Chandrashekhar, while taking to Twitter, criticized the great old party for seeking peace for someone who “terrorizes with a conflict that stabs our soldiers in the back and tortures our soldiers, violating all laws international law”.

Pervez Musharraf died Sunday after a long illness, at the American Hospital in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates after years of self-imposed exile. He was 79.
Musharraf’s organs were malfunctioning because of a disease called amyloidosis. This disease affects connective tissues and organs, inhibiting normal functioning. It is a rare disease caused by the accumulation of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.
Pervez Musharraf is known as the architect of the Kargil war who ordered his soldiers into India to cut off Leh from Srinagar.
During the war that took place in the summer of 1999, Pakistani soldiers, whose presence he denied, were annihilated in the high mountains of Kargil. It was a catastrophic military defeat for Mr. Musharraf, who pushed the plan and barely let his Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif know.
