Sharks for Retirement No. 12 by Patrick Marleau


On Thursday, San Jose Sharks Patrick Marleau’s announcement number 12 will be officially held for retirement in a ceremony scheduled for February 25 next year.

After 23 seasons in the NHL, the 42-year-old player retirement at the end of the 2021-22 season as the league’s all-time leader in games played (1,779).

“As a boy skating on a frozen pond, my dream was to play in the NHL,” Marleau said in the Sharks . press release. “I could never have imagined the honor of having my jersey hang from the rafters above the ice rink where I played so many of my NHL games. I can’t describe how I feel. but also for being able to play in front of the amazing San Jose Sharks fans for so long. I’ll remember that for the rest of my life. Thanks to the Sharks organization, my teammates throughout my career. me and especially the fans for this honor of a lifetime. I can’t wait to see all of you on February 25th.”

2nd overall in the 1997 NHL Draft, Marleau spent 21 seasons in San Jose, playing 1,607 out of 1,779 games in his career with the Sharks’ black and teal.

Marleau is a trademark of Sharks leader in games played (1,607), goals (522) and points (1,111).
