Shakur Stevenson Wants Stephen Fulton To Fight Boxing News 24
Via Chris Williams: Shakur Stevenson had words to WBC/WBO super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton on social media, saying he’d be willing to give him a “chance” to fight.
Fulton (20-0.8 KOs) seems to anger Shakur by saying he has his eye on the 126th and 130-lb divisions.
With Shakur having taken down an opponent at the age of 130, his prospects for exciting fights are looking bleak for him in that division.
The cupboard is empty for Shakur at 130, and it will likely continue to do so for a long time.
The fact that Stevenson (17-0.9 KOs) is targeting a boxer two divisions below him at 122 pounder Stephen Fulton shows how empty the 130-lb division is.
Shakur exhibits shark-like behavior
Stevenson’s behavior reminded Chris Williams of a shark that suddenly changed its hunting territory and was looking for a different type of food because it was starving.
The much smaller Fulton was prey outside of Shakur’s predatory territory, but he went looking for him anyway, treating him like an appetizer.
Stevenson, 24, must have thought his recent 10th round TKO win over WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring last October would open the door for him to land a fat fight. with 130-lb WBC champion Oscar Valdez, but that’s not happening, and it probably never will.
Fulton: “I am a** this year everyone from 122-130Lbs mark my words never disrespect me again! 122 in a 26-30 header right there even though I see it. “
Stevenson wants to fight Fulton
Shakur: “Well, look, I’m glad you think so. I’m a champion at 130 who would love to give another champion a chance. Please let me know. I don’t mind at all.
“The number 130 on the Brodie Locksh**finna clamp is at an impasse. I thought I was letting them come to me? Brodie, they do weight classes for a reason, and you know what that is to me. “
Fulton: “Dude, and tbh[to be honest] idk [I don’t know] You are nothing not nobody has a hand in nobody here, that’s why I am sending you my number at this time, you have given to the media at this point when you put it on IG. ”
Instead of Shakur picking the smaller Fulton, what he needed to do was move up to 135 and take on Vasily Lomachenko, George Kambosos Jr. and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
Fighting those guys is a realistic move by Stevenson and one that boxing fans might associate with more than seeing him hunt with the lesser Fulton boxer.
If Stevenson is at 130 to defend his newly won WBO lightweight title, he will sooner or later discover that it is a dead end for him.
Stevenson will gradually age and deteriorate at the age of 130 without any chance for necessary battles. That’s why Stevenson should give up his 130-lb WBO title and move up to 135 to broaden his horizons.
