Shakur Stevenson loses 130-pound title on scale, will rise to 135

Looks like Shakur Stevenson will gain up to 135 pounds.

Stevenson on Thursday lost his 130-pound title on the scale in a fight with Robson Conceicao on Friday in Newark, New Jersey, at 131.6 pounds.

He said that there is no hope he can make 130 if given more time.

He tweeted: “I gave it my all. I’ve been a pro all my career and have put on weight, but my body can’t put on 130 anymore. My health must come first. I’m moving up to my next 135 matches. “

ESPN reported that the boxers had agreed that Stevenson would pay Conceicao a financial penalty, but the amount was not disclosed. Stevenson is said to have made $3 million.

Conceicao, who weighs 129.6, will win the vacant WBC and WBO titles if he wins the match. They will be vacated if the Brazilians lose.

Stevenson (18-0.9 KOs) is on straight wins over Jamel Herring (to win the WBO title) and Oscar Valdez (to add the WBC belt), which has elevated him to the pound-for-pound list.

He will now be in a position to hit the big fights at 135, at which undisputed champion Devin Haney, George Kambosos Jr. and Vasiliy Lomachenko fight.

Conceicao (17-8 KOs) in a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, who lost his only previous match to win the world title, decidedly against champion Valdez last September.
