Shakur Stevenson: “I’m About To Take Over [135-lb] Assign”

Via Dan Ambrose: Shakur Stevenson said that he “Soon to take over“Slight division. Stevenson (19-0.9 KO) informed the 135-lb division that he is moving forward and is ready to take control of the weight division following his win over Robson Conceicao last Friday night.

Given the way the 135-lb division is broken up, it’s unlikely that Shakur will have a chance against Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis or Ryan Garcia. Tank’s leadership at Mayweather Promotions didn’t put him up against Vasyl Lomachenko, Haney, and Ryan despite interest from those three.

At best, Shakur would fight against Lomachenko and Haney, then find himself battling obscure candidates for years without a chance to face Tank Davis or Ryan Garcia.

Former double world champion Stevenson, 25, says he wants to challenge undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney or face Vasyl Lomachenko on his debut at the age of 135.

The chances of either of those fights happening immediately for Shakur are slim, and none. Top ranked has announced that they want to play Lomachenko against the winner of the Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr II.

Shakur Stevenson told DAZN Boxing Show. “Just because I’m about to take over this department. This is my part now. I’ll go to the gym and do wrestling.

“Getting my arm free when someone was grabbing me was what I needed to do because he was grabbing me, and I couldn’t get rid of my arm.

“I was ready to throw three, four and five punches, and when I was ready, he would grab me and pull me over. He’s using his survival instincts really well. I need to make sure I’m pulling my arm out so I can shoot.

“I could have gone in there and moved from the first half to the end of the game and done it easily without any penalty or touch. I don’t want to do that. I want to give everyone a show.

“I’m really comfortable in the pocket. I’m not going to fight Tank the way I did, man. I’ll move around, beat him, and use my speed and IQ to my advantage.

“With someone else like Devin [Haney], I can press forward. With different styles, I can fight differently. I’m the winner. I will do whatever it takes to win.

“Me and Lomachenko. I think him and Lomachenko will be a big battle. It could happen in the next game or two. I am ready. No, but clearly their minds were decided on that day,” Shakur said when asked if he had spoken to his manager about fighting Lomachenko.

“They knew I was ready. Stevenson said.
