Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out for weeks with ankle sprain
Oklahoma City guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be out until at least the All-Star break due to a sprained ankle, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Gilgeous-Alexander, 23, is the team’s top scorer with an average of 22.7 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. The Thunder are second in the Western Conference standings with a 14-34 record and have won just one game since New Year’s Eve.
Gilgeous-Alexander injured his ankle in the third inning of Oklahoma City’s 113-110 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. He was down after a foul and took two free throws before hobbling into the dressing room. According to ESPN, Gilgeous-Alexander is wearing boots and crutches after the game.
Luguentz Dort is the only other Thunder player to average more than 12 points per game (16.3).
Thunder acquired Gilgeous-Alexander in a 2019 transaction that brought Paul George to the Los Angeles Clippers. His 2021 season ended in March due to a meningeal tear, but the Thunder brought in Gilgeous-Alexander renew for up to 5 years in August worth $172 million.
