Sexyy Red and André 3000 Discuss the Origin of Their Rap Names
In the viral clip, Andre asked people how they addressed the female rapper and how she wanted to be addressed. “They call me Sexyy. You’ll hear them say Sexyy.” The ‘Pound Town’ rapper responded. “Then it’s great if we say Sexyy, right?” Outkast member asked. “Yeah, that’s great…” The 26-year-old said she doesn’t get mad when people call her by the last part of her stage name, but she prefers to be called Sexyy. “Okay, Sexyy,” Stacks said in a low voice and then laughed.
Furthermore, she explained that this guy gave her the name “Sexy” as they brainstormed a name to put before Red. She revealed that they were uploading music to her YouTube channel and she needed a name. She already had the name Red but added Sexyy after the man’s suggestion. Before that, she was called “Trill Red.” Rapper ‘SkeeYee’ says this is the nickname people call her on the street.
Later in the chat, the ‘The Way You Move’ artist revealed that his first rap name was “Black Wolf,” and Big Boi, his bandmate, known as “Black dog.” The lyricist said that these names were created when they were 16 years old. Additionally, he revealed that they had another group name before calling themselves ‘Outkast.’ He said, “Yes, we were in ‘2 Shades Deep.’” André said they were big fans of ‘A Tribe Called Quest’, and the three-word name was popular at the time. He said they later changed their name after a band at their high school called themselves ‘4 Shades Deep’. Sexyy couldn’t believe the singers copied their name. 3000 said they decided on ‘Outkast’ because they dressed differently from the other students at school. Sexyy replied, “Stop,” seemingly approving the pair of going out of the box with their style.
