Several Ukrainian cities hit by rockets in new Russian offensive
Condemning the daytime attacks, the UN’s top aid coordinator in Ukraine, Denise Brown, said several cities had been targeted, including the capital Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih and Pokrovsk.
The attacks happened “just as people were starting their day. Dozens of people were killed and injured,” speak Ms Brown, who reported heavy damage at the children’s hospital in central Kyiv.
‘Unconscionable’ strike
“It is unconscionable that children are killed and injured. in this war. Under international humanitarian law, hospitals are given special protection. Civilians must be protected,” she stressed.
The latest bloody developments follow. a commotion from the United Nations human rights office monitors that May saw Highest civilian casualties caused by Russian attacks in nearly a year.
According to t’s reportUnited Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU)Between 1 March and 31 May, at least 436 civilians were killed and 1,760 others injured. The casualties included six media workers, 26 medical staff, five aid workers and 28 emergency services workers.
The UN report added that the majority (91 percent) of casualties occurred in Ukrainian-controlled territory and 9 percent in Russian-occupied territory.
During the same reporting period, Russian authorities reported that 91 civilians were killed and 455 injured in Russia as a result of attacks by Ukrainian armed forces, mainly in the Belgorod, Briansk and Kursk regions.
More than 20 people died
At least 20 people were reportedly killed in Monday’s attacks, while President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said more than 40 missiles were fired.
In addition to the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, many other public infrastructure facilities were also damaged, along with commercial and residential buildings in cities including Dnipro, Kramatorsk, Kryviy Rih, Kyi and Pokrovsk.
