Setting up a new Android smartphone? Do these five things first

I like the fingerprint reader on Android smartphones, but when you set it up, you get the option to register more than one finger.

Do it.

Why?

Well, I’m not suggesting that you might lose a finger or anything (it can happen, but it’s pretty rare these days), but even a small cut or a bandage could leave you enter your passcode. I tend to register four fingers (two fingers on each hand — which one depends on the smartphone, the location of the fingerprint reader and the size of the handset) to give gives me the most flexible unlocking capabilities.

Also, I tend to register the primary finger that I use to unlock the phone twice. I find that this makes the reader more reliable and less likely to be left out by small scars or some dirt.

Doing all of this takes a few minutes, but it will save you a little bit of frustration.
