Selling Maruti Suzuki cars, SUVs; upcoming EV launch details


Maruti Suzuki has become the first automaker in India to achieve this milestone.

Maruti Suzuki reached the cumulative sales milestone of 25 million cars and SUVs, becoming the first manufacturer to set this record.

Maruti Suzuki started making cars 40 years ago

Maruti Suzuki sells more than 1.5 million units by 2022

In 2022, Maruti Suzuki sold more than 1.5 million units, recording an annual growth of 15%. Its smaller cars like Celerio, CHEAP prescription, Fast, ignition, Baleno accounted for most of the brand’s growth – with 869,040 units accounting for 55% of Maruti Suzuki’s sales in 2022. The automaker’s SUV and MPV models contributed 21% of total sales in the year. last with 3,37,157 units.

Its entry-level models, Alto and S-Presso – with 2,27,824 units sold – recorded a drop of more than 17% due to a sharp drop in demand in the mass market segment.

Maruti Suzuki has an estimated order backlog of 350,000 units. It would have worked better if production hadn’t been affected at different times of the year due to semiconductor supply chain issues.

Maruti Suzuki ranks second in sales of MPV, SUV

In the ongoing fiscal year 2023, Maruti Suzuki is in second place in terms of Multi-Purpose Vehicle (UV) sales, behind Tata engine. Despite the semiconductor crisis, from April to December 2022, Maruti Suzuki sold 2,60,172 SUVs and MPVs, a growth of 22% year-on-year. However, Maruti’s growth in this segment is slower than both Tata and Mahindra – both with more UV models.

Suzuki recently announced that it will have six new electric cars in India by 2030.
