Sega acquires Angry Birds Developer Rovio for $776 million – TouchArcade
Sega Sammy just announced that it will get Angry bird creators Rovio Entertainment for 706 million euros (about 776 million dollars) to help expand the mobile market. This announcement was made a few days later a WSJ . report mentioned that Sega was about to acquire Rovio for $1 billion. In recent years, Sega has done a lot on mobile through its own free-to-play releases and also Apple Arcade titles, some of which have since left the service.
It will be interesting to see how this acquisition ends for both parties. Rovio recently brought back the original classic game in the form of Rovio Classics: Angry Birds ABOVE iOS And Android as a new premium release will be ultimate drag on Android. While this move will certainly give Sega a bigger footprint on mobile, I’m still interested to see what happens to Rovio’s own properties and operations in the future.
