Sebastian Fundora is ready for the battle of Brian Mendoza on April 8

Via Knitting Ambrosio: Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora (20-0-1, 13 KOs) is poised to defend his interim WBC middleweight title next month on April 8 against Brian Mendoza (21-2, 15 KOs) ) above Showtimes at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Fundora & Mendoza answered questions Monday during their virtual press conference to discuss their fight next month on April 8.

Fundora 6’6″ let Mendoza know that he intends to show that he will face the next world champion when they face off against each other in a 12-round clash in Carson.

It will be interesting to see if Fundora chooses to go to war with Mendoza like he did with Erickson Lubin last year or he will choose to try and attack from the outside, as he did in his previous fight with Carlos. Ocampo.

Some boxing fans feel Fundora has lost the desire to fight an opponent after being knocked out and punished by Lubins in their fight.

If 25-year-old Fundora wins, he could challenge undisputed middleweight champion Jermell Charlo next. Jermell’s broken hand slowed him down on defense against WBO must-have opponent Tim Tszyu. Charlo needs to settle that fight before he can get there

“We are waiting for our shot to fight for the title,” Sebastian Fundora said on Monday virtual press conference. “I am always ready to go from head to toe. We have to get past Mendoza to think about competing for the title.”

We could see Charlo-Fundora early next year if Charlo beats Tszyu and Fundora beats Mendoza. Charlo only fights once a year, so his match against Tszyu at the end of the summer will likely be his only one in 2023.

In that case, Fundora will need to stay busy and continue defending its interim WBC title instead of sitting around waiting and getting tired. At 25, Fundora should stay active because it will pay off when he challenges for the world title in 2023, whether against Charlo or Tszyu.

“We’re where we want to be and just want to win that title soon,” Fundora said. “We will have to see what he brings on April 8. We both have chips on our shoulders. We want to be champions, and we have to win on April 8 to do that.

“Some people are trying to ignore me to fight for the title. Mendoza will find out that I’m the next super middleweight world champion,” Fundora said.
