Seattle Seahawks prepare for a long season of disappointment

The 2022 NFL season will likely be one of the worst in a long time for the Seattle Seahawks. They took a few steps back after the Russell trade Wilson to DenverThe final link to their championship defense, Bobby Wagner, was released in March, and there’s a quarterback battle between the two that will back up most teams.

It’s only pre-season, but the Seahawks have lost their first two games, with one remaining to the Dallas Cowboys on Friday. The first game against Pittsburgh wasn’t terrible, for offense scored three touchdowns, led by Drew Lock and Geno Smith. Lock recorded twice TD passing, and Smith rushed for once. Both threw more than 100 meters after 15 attempts. Not great, but far from awful, even though Seattle lost 32-25.

In the second game of pre-season against the Bears, Smith didn’t play well display in limited time. Geno is 10/18 and the pass is 112 yards long. Lock up miss this game after testing positive for COVID-19, so Jacob Eason entered and didn’t have a better result than Smith. Seattle collected 11 points with a TD on the ground after running away from Darwin Thompson.

After the game against the Bears in Seattle, NBA star LeBron James was in town appearance in the ProAm tournament “The Crawsover”. It was a long time (15 years) since Lebron wore them and lived in the emerald city. So Seattle’s social media team took this golden opportunity to remind LeBron of an open offer to match hawks.

Obviously, this is a tongue-in-cheek offer, but we’ve heard for years about how good James probably could have been if he’d chosen to focus on football over basketball. Think of him playing with the Seahawk split out wide on the opposite side of D.K. Metcalf. Then you add Tyler Lockett to that mix, and you’ve one awesome-looking wide receiver group. But even if Bron could’ve been a great football player, it’s doubtful he would’ve been one of the top three players in the game’s history.

At this stage, that dream will never become a reality. But the social media posting reads almost like an S.O.S. Please, send help! It makes me think of the Shannon Sharpe clip from years ago when the Broncos were pounding the Patriots and Sharpe begging someone to send someone to protect the country.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter who Seattle is in line at this year’s WR. They could bring in Randy Moss, Jerry Rice or Terrell Owens to play alongside Metcalf and Lockett. If QB can’t get them on target consistently and the attack doesn’t keep up, they’ll still be the most-anticipated team in 20.22.

Two wins at the NFC West this year would be an achievement for the Seahawks. The Cardinals, Rams, and 49ers were the gentle frontrunners of the Seahawks. It is the only league with three teams making it past the post-season, and the 49ers and Rams battle it out in the NFC title game. NFC West is also the only division to have three teams win double-digit games. Seattle isn’t even in the same universe as these teams.

Week 1 will probably feel like the Super Bowl for Seahawks fans as Wilson returns to the city with the Broncos. If Seattle only wins one game all year, fans will want it to be this one. Whenever a star player decides to leave the team, we know their reaction upon returning. And NFL set this up perfectly for Week 1 of the season in Seattle. Even if the game isn’t that great, the plot will have people in different parts of the country expecting this.

While it looks like this could be another bad year for the Seahawks, there is light at the end of this dark tunnel. 2023 QB class is predicted to be much deeper more than this year. Some soon fake draft predict more QBs picked in the top 10 than just one QB picked in the entire first round this April.

If Seattle makes the top five of the draft, they should have a choice between the likes of CJ Stroud (Ohio State), Bryce Young (Alabama) and Anthony Richardson (Florida), among others. If you have to go through another tough season to find your franchise QB over the next decade, so be it.

The days of total defensive shutdown are long gone. There are good defences, but everyone gives way, and you drop points. Violations are too high and the rules are too skewed towards them. So teams that don’t have at least an above-average QB basically have no chance of serious competition.

You are not a real contender if your QB is not considered top 10-12 in the league. The Seahawks don’t have a single guy in the top 25. I’m not saying the Seahawks will lose every game. In fact, it’s likely that there are 4-5 games they will have a chance of winning. Seattle plays against both New York teams (both games in Seattle), the Lions, Falcons and Panthers. There must be some victory after facing that group of teams.

Unless something crazy happens to the Seahawks, like the 49ers losing their minds and assigning Jimmy Garoppolo to save their season. In that unlikely event, it is shaping up to be a very long autumn in the Pacific Northwest.
