Sean Crocker still tops after day two at Hero Open

American Sean Crocker remains the best player in the Hero Open, despite having his daytime record broken by teammate and makeshift housemate Ewen Ferguson.

Crocker added 66 to his opening 63 at Fairmont St Andrews for a total of 15 under par and a one-shot lead over Scott Jamieson, who shot eight birdies in a perfect 64 and failed to shoot a single shot in first two days.

However, the round of the day belonged to Jamieson’s compatriot Scot Ferguson, who climbed more than 120 places on the leaderboard with a stunning 73rd opening with 61.

Starting from ninth again, Ferguson followed the lead in 10th with six consecutive birdies and made another on the 18th for the 29th’s turn.

Subsequent hits on the second and third innings raised the prospect of just 59th in DP World Tour history, but Ferguson could only take the hit on the sixth and ninth.

“I’ve played incredible and improved a lot than I am now,” said the 26-year-old. “I worked with dad and Goughie (Jamie Gough) a lot trying to get the shot right because the tempo was out.

“I still can’t figure it out and this morning I woke up with a bad feeling and not much hope (about the cutoff) because the score was so low. But Goughie came to me with a piece of string that he had in mind. put on the ground and told me to start hitting the putt.

“I kept pulling it and he told me ‘you’re aiming left’ and I could see the line on my putter was aiming left. So he made me put my hand forward and wear it. Although I felt it was not normal, but he did the video and I could see it actually looked normal and I started banging them on.

“That gave me a little bit of hope on the pitch when I was out on the field and I made a good point for a 10, then another good for a birdie on the 11th. I could. suddenly felt it.

“I missed last week even though I wasn’t playing badly but my head was down because I was playing badly. Sean Crocker came to my house for the weekend to stay and me and him, my brother and a few friends had a night out and relax, really.

“Then I got hooked with him this week and I think that helped us relax. He went out and scored a course record yesterday (Thursday) and I have to. admittedly I felt more stressed playing with him today because of that and having a chance to beat it. It was pretty cool.”
