SEA Games: Pontejos, Philippines begin title defense with Cambodia rout

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines destroyed Cambodia, May 21, on Friday afternoon, winning the title in the Southeast Asian Games women’s 3×3 event with their right foot.
Janine Pontejos, who was crowned the 3×3 basketball championship here 4 years ago, shot the basketball with deadly accuracy, finishing with 8 points in the competition at Thanh Tri Gymnasium, Hanoi, Vietnam.
Clare Castro was an undeniable force when it came to the lows, adding seven more in a match that appeared to be a copy of the men’s team’s conquest of Cambodia just hours earlier.
Afril Bernardino and Angel Surada put together 3 points to give the Philippines a confidence-boosting victory ahead of their clash with hosts Vietnam at 4pm also Friday.
Gilas had a tough start, starting 4-0 behind seasoned veterans Castro, Bernardino and Pontejos. The Cambodians managed to create a bit of fun in the middle of the clash, but the Filipinos returned after the wait with double zest, shooting the basketball with confidence and pairing with a relentless effort at the top. the other end to score nine points in a row and make a mark. its first victory in the campaign.
