SEA Games: Pencak Silat’s Francine Padios bags PH’s first gold medal
MANILA, Philippines – Pencak Silat athlete Francine Padios took home the Philippines’ first gold medal at the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday at Bac Tu Liem Gymnasium, Vietnam.
Padios defeated Indonesia’s Puspa Arum Sari in the Pencak Silat women’s Tunggal Seni (Arts) singles final.
National female athlete Pencak Silat became the country’s first gold medalist at this year’s biennial meeting.
Philippines has one gold, one silver from Helen Aclopen in the Kurash women’s -48kg category, and two bronze medals by Charlie Quelino and George Baclagan of the Kurash national team at the time of posting. The men’s handball team also won a silver medal but has another game to play on Wednesday.
