SEA Games: Jocel Ninobla delivers PH’s first taekwondo gold in poomsae
MANILA, Philippines – Jocel Lyn Ninobla retained the gold crown in the women’s individual poomsae event of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Monday at Tay Ho Gymnasium, Hanoi, Vietnam.
Ninobla took home the country’s first Taekwondo gold medal as she topped the poomsae competition with a best score of 7,765, beating Vietnam’s Tran Kim Uyen Le, who won silver with 7,649 points.
This is Ninobla’s second gold in a row after ruling SEA Games 2019 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex with a score of 8,433.
Ornawee Srisahakit of Thailand and Nurul Hidayah Abdul of Malaysia shared the bronze medal after finishing with a score of 7,482.
Meanwhile, the Philippines also won two silver medals in the mixed freestyle and men’s team poomsae.
Janna Oliva, Juvenile Crisostomo, Justin Kobe Macario, Darius the Venerable and Jeordan Dominguez clinched a score of 7,366 in the mixed freestyle poomsae to take the silver medal, losing to Vietnam, who came out on top with 7,791 points. Laos won bronze with 6,233 points.
Patrick King Perez, Raphael Enrico Mella and Rodolfo Reyes Jr ranked second in the men’s team event with 7,732 points while Vietnam was only behind the Philippines in gold with 7,782 points.
Indonesia (7,466) and Singapore (7,349) shared the bronze medal.
