The Philippines are now on the threshold of successfully defending their title in the Southeast Asian Games after a painful 88-61 loss to Singapore in the women’s basketball tournament on Saturday morning.

Female Gilas Pilipinas picked up 15 points from Clare Castro, 14 from Khate Castillo and Janine Pontejos, and 11 more from Angel Surada for a fourth straight win in the showcase at Thanh Tri Gymnasium, Hanoi.

The Nationals held off the enemy by just six points in the opening round and then tightened their defensive noose in the third inning to lead to another thorough victory.

The Philippines have averaged 22.5 points in the tournament and it is understandable to be crowned champions again.

Gilas were the only team unbeaten in the race and were able to complete the comeback by beating Malaysia 2-1 on Sunday also at 10am.
