There you can pick up the 1TB model for £98, and it’s even a premium version that includes a pre-installed premium heatsink.
The 980 Pro is currently in a bit of development, released in 2020, but it still takes the upper hand in the ‘first generation’ PCIe 4.0 SSDs alongside the WD SN850, and it’s significantly cheaper now. due to its age. At launch it cost £83 for a 250GB model without a heatsink, so buy one with four times the capacity and a radiator for just over £15 is a pretty stellar result. This particular 1TB heatsink usually retails for £125, so buying it for under £100 is a real bargain.
In terms of specs, the 980 Pro uses Samsung’s own flash memory and controllers for some impressive speeds – rated speeds of 7000 MB/s read and 5100 MB/s write, with performance gains impressive randomization also up to 1000K IOPS on both reads and writes. That puts it alongside the later WD SN850x and only marginally behind the newer 990 Pro, which currently occupies the ‘fastest’ spot on our list. Recommend the best SSD.
As expected, performance is excellent, and having used Samsung SSDs for a long time on my machine, I can’t speak to their reliability as well. If you want the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD you can find for under £100, this is a good candidate!
