At a CES press conference on Wednesday, Samsung show a new addition to its SmartThings smart home experience–SmartThings Station. The station will act as a smart home hub for all your connected devices while having the look and functionality of a charging pad.

SmartHome Station transforms Samsung’s wireless charger into a smart home hub that can control every aspect of your home at the touch of a button. When using SmartThings Station, users will be able to create routines on the SmartThings app, which can then be activated by tapping the Smart Button on the keyboard.

Instead of having to turn each device on and off individually, through the use of pre-set procedures on the app and SmartThings Station, you can control all of your devices with one command. For example, a quick tap before bed can trigger a nighttime routine that includes turning off the lights, closing the blinds, and lowering the temperature, according to Samsung.

SmartThings Station also acts as a charger and supports 15W wireless charging. It will be available in black or white in the US and South Korea starting in early February, according to Samsung. No price has been officially revealed, although Samsung has said that the pad is affordable.

SmartThings has played a key role in implementing Samsung’s sustainability efforts, saving people money with lower energy bills while helping the environment. SmartThings Energy’s AI Energy mode saves up to 15% more on compatible refrigerators, more than 20% savings on compatible air conditioners, and up to 35% more savings on compatible washing machines in cycles selective, according to Samsung.

As a result, SmartThings has become the first mass-market Smart Home Energy Management System to be awarded the Energy Star Shems Certification by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In addition to SmartThings, Samsung has announced a number of partnerships to achieve its sustainability goals. Patagonia and Samsung have teamed up to combat microplastics that flake off during laundry cycles and end up in oceans, lakes and rivers.

According to Samsung, the companies have jointly developed a new washing technology called Microfibre Cycle that minimizes the release of microplastics. The feature is already available on washing machines in Europe, and will be available in Korea in February and the US shortly after. This feature will not be limited to Samsung washing machines.

The partnership between Samsung and Philips Hue will allow users to control Philips Hue lighting from their Samsung TVs via the new Philips Hue Sync TV app that can be downloaded to Samsung TVs from the app store. according to Samsung.

In line with its sustainability goals, the tech giant also shared that many of its smartphones and TVs are made from recycled plastic, such as those from discarded fishing nets.
