Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra camera sample highlights night shots and impressive zoom

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra there is always the possibility of ranking among best camera phoneand now we’re even more certain of it, as leaked camera samples, allegedly taken with the phone, show impressive photography skills.
Twitter users Edwards Urbina (opens in a new tab) Post a series of photos showing off night shots and zoom (via NotebookCheck (opens in a new tab)), so let’s see.
First, take pictures at night. For this, Urbina posted two pictures (opens in a new tab) perhaps taken in normal mode, in addition to those in night mode (or perhaps astrophotography mode).
Normal photos were extremely dark, showing very little light in the scene, while night mode shots were impressively bright and full of detail.
They’re far from perfect – there’s a bit of noise, some blurry details, unnatural colors in the foliage, and they’re not perfectly in focus. But with low light levels it seems to work with still strong results.
Now we come to the zoom shots, with photos that appear to have been taken at 1x, 3x, 10x, and 30x zoom.

The Ultra series has always excelled at zoom shots, so it’s no surprise that these photos look good – especially the first three lines, since the phone can optically zoom to those distances. However, the 30x zoom also looks quite detailed – if not as sharp as the others, and since the optical zoom of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra can be as high as 10x, that’s impressive.
Indeed, leaker @UniverseIce (opens in a new tab) claim that this photo looks as good as the 20x zoom photo above Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultraso while the optical range may not be better this year, the overall quality of the zoom shots – and especially the digital zoom – could be improved.
Of course, these are just a few photos, we can’t be sure they are real and we don’t have side-by-side comparisons with the Galaxy S22 Ultra or other phones. So don’t read too much into them, but they look promising.
With Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra expected in 01 Febwe will soon know exactly how good its camera is.
Opinion: zoom looks great, but next year it needs to be much better
From everything we’ve seen and heard so far, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will take the crown as the best camera phone, replacing the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra that currently sits at the top of the table.
With a new 200MP main sensor and improvements to both night photography and zoom, there should be some decent photography upgrades here – but next year the company should focus more on zoom enhancements.
For now, Samsung is said to be leading in zoom photography, as rival handsets don’t offer 10x optical zoom, but they may soon catch up. Google is gradually approaching the 5x optical zoom offered on Pixel 7 Proand Apple is said to put the periscope camera on the iPhone 15 Ultra.
Meanwhile, Samsung has done little to promote zoom photography over the past few years. The software has improved but the hardware improvements are few and far between and there are no changes to the maximum optical zoom distance on Ultra phones.
So if the company wants to maintain its lead then we might need more than 10x optical zoom on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – or some other trick, such as the continuous optical zoom offered by Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Sony Xperia 1IV.
