LUCKY: Thursday’s Samajwadi party named former Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav is the party’s candidate for Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypollneeded by the death of her father-in-law and Chief SP Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The wife of SP Akhilesh Yadav national president, Bardi Bahu of Mulayam has served as MP for Kannauj twice in the past. Choti Bahu Aparna Yadav, the patriarch of SP has officially joined the BJP ahead of the 2022 parliamentary elections and is awaiting her electorate debut as a saffron party candidate.
Dimple Yadav’s name has surprised many in the political world as well as the media since Tej Pratap Yadav’s name has been around for quite some time as a possible candidate to inherit Mulayam’s legacy for two reasons: First, because Tej Pratap won the 2014 championship from Mainpuri, after Mulayam vacated the seat to keep Azamgarh. Second, since Mulayam has been ill since 2020, Tej Pratap has been active as the patriarchal representative in the constituency.
However, Dimple’s name was finalized after the head of SP held a series of meetings with party leaders and representatives of the Yadav and Muslim communities in Mainpuri, the elders of the Yadav clan and senior party leaders during his recent stop in Saifai en route to Dholpur and back from Sunday onwards.
