The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X is a good gaming CPU with better content creation performance than the more expensive 5800X3D – although it’s slower than the X3D when it comes to gaming. However, at its price point, it hits a punch, and officials at HUKD have spotted a good price for the 5800X at CCL. In terms of performance, the 5800X delivers around 80% of the 7700X’s performance in some CPU-limited scenarios (e.g. gaming at 1080p with a good GPU) and much less under higher GPU loads – when you’re gaming at higher resolution or when you have less powerful GPU the 3090 I used for my testing.
So: £235 is a great price for a high-end CPU and should leave a decent chunk of your budget for a great graphics card that will contribute more to overall gaming performance – especially especially since AM4 motherboards and DDR4 RAM are much cheaper than their next generation counterparts.
