Ryan Giggs will face a retrial over allegations that he assaulted and controlled his ex-girlfriend and assaulted her sister, a judge has ruled.
A judge set a new trial date for 31 July next year in a brief hearing on Wednesday at Manchester Crown Court.
The jury in his first trial was discharged from the hospital last week after failing to reach a verdict after nearly 23 hours of deliberation.
Giggs is accused of physically assaulting her former partner, Kate Greville, causing actual bodily harm, and using the act of restraining and raping her from August 2017 to November 2020.
The former Manchester United star was also charged for the joint behavior of Emma, Greville’s sister.
Giggs denied the charges against him.
He is accused of intentionally headbuting Ms Greville at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester, on the evening of 1 November 2020.
The former Wales manager is also accused of intentionally elbowing his sister Emma in the jaw during the incident.
At his first trial, Giggs admitted he was a “love cheater” who had been unfaithful in all of his previous relationships, but denied ever physically assaulting a woman. or use controlling or coercive behavior.
