Ryan Garcia picks Devin Haney to beat Tank Davis

Via Dan Ambrose: Ryan Garcia believes undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney will beat ‘regular’ WBA champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis if and when that bout plays out.

Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) is currently tied for a rematch with George Kambosos Jr, and who knows when he’ll get a chance to take on Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs).

For the Tank-Haney fight to work, Haney will need to beat Kambosos later this year, and hopefully the people who promoted him to Top Rank will give him the green light to face Tank.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen. The top rating will likely point Haney in the direction of Vasily Lomachenko if he comes back from a war zone or face Shakur Stevenson if he is willing to gain weight from 130.

Shakur is slowing down his career with his support trying to be the undisputed champion in ultralight rather than moving up to lightweight to face the big names. like Haney, Tank Davis, Ryan Garcia, or Kambosos.

“Is it boring? Right. Will he be able to show his killer instincts? Yes,” Ryan Garcia told DAZN boxing show about Devin Haney’s recent win over unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. on June 5.

“I would probably give Devin a little edge, but ‘Tank’ can always take down with a single punch. He can knock anyone down with a single punch. He can even knock me out. I’m so excited for all these matches. ”

Chances are, Ryan Garcia is just trolling Tank Davis by leaning over Haney to defeat him.

If Ryan upsets Tank enough, he can throw him a bone by agreeing to fight him later this year to cash the inexperienced YouTuber promoting the Golden Boy.

Most boxing fans would agree that Tank Davis would be too much for 23-year-old Haney early in his career. Haney is traumatized by Joseph ‘Jojo’ Diaz Jr. and Jorge Linares make it clear that he is NOT ready for a boxer like Tank Davis.

“Some people don’t have that, and he doesn’t,” Ryan said of Haney’s lack of the “killer instinct” needed to impress. “When he gets in there with me, he’s going to have a killer instinct, and he knows what I’m talking about.

“Devin isn’t like that, and he’s just getting ready to win. I don’t know how many people will be interested in it,” Ryan said when asked if the Kambosos was smart to implement the rematch clause to force a second fight with Haney.

“If they’re willing to sell that war again, that’s on them. Hopefully, they get paid. I’m focusing on Fortuna. I only knew Fortuna came to fight, and I wanted a fierce warrior against me.

“For me, Javier is the perfect match for myself, and to set up a fight with Tank, that makes the most sense. He is [Fortuna]a short but very aggressive Southpaw.

“He’s a veteran and he’s a bit crafty whether people think so or not. For me, it prepares me for Tank more than Jojo [Diaz Jr]. For me, it was the best option because my mind was focused on fighting Gervonta Davis.”
