Ryan Garcia Calls To Fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis

Ryan Garcia dominated Javier Fortuna on Saturday night, knocking out his opponent in rounds four, five and six. The last of those kills brought Fortuna to his knees and he couldn’t get up, taking Garcia’s career tally to 23-0 with 19 kills.

After an impressive victory, Garcia immediately called for a match against Gervonta “The Tank” Davis.

“I won’t go back to 135 [pounds] nothing, but I’ll fight the next ‘Tank’,” said Garcia, via ESPN. “If ‘Tank’ wants it at 140… get it.”

Garcia, 23, has previously fought in superlight (130 pounds) and light heavyweight (135), winning titles including the WBC interim lightweight belt. His last two bouts have been contested at ultralight (140), where he says he’s much more relaxed.

However, Garcia still ranked sixth in ESPN’s Lightweight Rankings4 places higher than the 10th ranked team Fortuna and 3 places behind the third place, Davis.

Davis, 27, improved to 27-0 in May with a knockout win over Rolando Romero. It was the 25th knockout of Davis’ career and he is currently the WBA (Regular) lightweight champion. Garcia was first in the duel with Davis-Romero and bet $20,000 that Romero would give Davis his first loss.
