Russia’s latest decision violates Ukraine’s territorial integrity, says UN chief

According to reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially recognized the breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine as independent states.

In a statement released by Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the head of the United Nations called for the “peaceful resolution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, in accordance with the Minsk Agreements, as confirmed by the Security Council in resolution 2202 (2015)”.

Furthermore, Guterres considered Russia’s decision “a violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and inconsistent with the principles of the United Nations Charter.”

End Hostile Behavior, Immediately

Amid intense artillery shelling in eastern Ukraine by opposition parties, the concentration of Russian troops is said to continue to increase at the country’s borders.
