Oh, the old boys of Garage 54 are there again. We haven’t checked with them in a while, but they’re still putting Ladas through hell with their auto tests. The video from earlier this month is particularly interesting, demonstrating that, yes, if you put a layer of super glue on a car tire, you can hang it upside down.
This test uses a scientific Russian YouTube wrench we all know and love – test the strength of the chosen super glue by gluing two tires together and pulling. they are so strong. You guys like it so much. It wouldn’t budge, so our host tried a crowbar, but no luck either. He thinks this is good enough proof that the glue will hold. But what’s even better is a metal plate that is glued directly to the tire. The gang went with that approach.
With a tactic laid out, these men glued metal plates to the tire of an unsuspecting Lada, and attempted to lift it into the air with the tire panels glued with a crane. A tire is so old, the super glue has ripped the rubber from the rest of the tire. As it turns out, this glue is super strong: The ropes they used to lift the car broke before the glue stuck.
Our crew realized they might be playing games also safe now, so they switched to chains, and lifted the entire weight of the car with just two glued tires. Because of course they did.
So you have it. You can actually lift a car in the air using just super glue and an amazingly small amount. That’s not the only interesting use for these. Super glue, more formally known as Cyanoacrylate glue, is used to close wounds in Vietnam, according to BBC Science Spotlight Blog. Super glue smoke is also used to reveal fingerprints at crime scenes. But if you need to move a Lada, it’s a viable, if not unconventional, option.
