Rumor: 2K secured license for FIFA and will develop next game
Publisher 2K is now rumored to have secured an official FIFA license and will be developing the next game, which could be titled FIFA 2K25.
This comes from retailer MohPlay Inc. above X (Thank, European gamers), who posted an unverified claim that a partnership between 2K and FIFA was “confirmed” with a new game coming this year.
What’s especially puzzling about this rumor, however, is the seemingly rapid change in the game’s development. If a new FIFA game To be launching this year as claimed, one can only assume that 2K has assigned a studio (possibly Visual Concepts) to begin work on a soccer game while they are in talks with FIFA.
However, in support of MohPlay Inc.’s post, Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw has also stated that “we may get an announcement soon”, citing that no one is ready to officially talk about the relationship. Potential new cooperation system.
If all of this is true then it’s an interesting notion that 2K could soon present a legitimate challenge to EA’s monopoly in the world of interactive football. Since Konami gave up ‘Professional football evolves’ Building on its own franchise, EA has certainly dominated, with EA Sports FC 24 regularly topping the charts in the UK.
