The return of veteran defenders Kurtley Beale and Bernard Foley lifted the Australians’ spirits as they sought to recover against South Africa in the Rugby Championship on Saturday.
The injured Wallabies were beaten 48-17 by Argentina in San Juan in their final game and will face world champions Springboks in Adelaide – live on Sports sky.
Beale returns to utility having not featured for the Wallabies since late 2021 while Foley was named last week in his first Australia squad since the 2019 World Cup.

“Both are great personalities,” winger Andrew Kellaway told reporters on Tuesday.
“Kurtley brings his infectious laughter everywhere he goes, so he’s bringing spirits first.
“He’s one of those guys who always pushes people around. That’s a really great thing. Bernard too.
“Having them around makes others feel really confident.”
Beale is not expected to play against South Africa on Saturday as he recovers from fitness and Foley could also miss picks while he catches up with the Wallabies’ game plan.
The Wallabies will have plenty of reinforcements, including Kellaway, who has announced he has recovered from a serious hamstring injury that has sidelined him since the loss in England.
Prop Allan Alaalatoa is another person returning to camp after missing the match against Pumas for personal reasons.
Coach Dave Rennie asked the Wallabies to react after San Juan surrendered, leading to some “tough conversations” during a review session, Alaalatoa said.
“We just had a sour taste in our mouths after the last game,” the tightr added.
“Unfortunately we took a break and a lot of the boys were probably thinking about that the whole time.
“But everyone showed up this morning at one of our big training sessions and had a slight edge. It’s a good feeling for our preparation so far.”
