RRR’s Naatu Naatu, All That Breathes, The Elephant Whisperers get Oscar nominations 2023: Details
Three Indian films have been nominated in their respective categories for the 2023 Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday. SS Rajamouli’s RRR earned a spot among Best Original Song of the Year, thanks to the energetic dance track ‘Naatu Naatu’. Meanwhile, Chhello Show directed by Pan Nalin — India’s official choice for the Oscars — failed to make the list of Best International Film. Even the subtle erotic mystery drama Park Chan Wook’s decision to leave was objectively eliminated in this category. The 95th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 12.
As mentioned, the Indian productions earned two other nominations in the documentary segments. First is All those breaths, a documentary film set in New Delhi by Shaunak Sen, follows two brothers who have dedicated their lives to treating injured birds amid deteriorating air pollution levels in the area. . It was among the top 15 films that made the list academy shortlist, after surviving fierce competition with 143 others. Though, All those breaths India release is not yet guaranteed. It was nominated in the category of Best Documentary Feature, among such categories as navy — a story that explores the near-death experience of Russian opposition Alexei Navalny with an assassination attempt and more.
Kartiki Gonsalves’ Elephant whispers also earned a nomination for Best Documentary Short Film. In it, we follow the daily life of an elderly couple who have spent their whole lives taking care of a baby elephant, eventually forming a family bond. The 41-minute documentary is now on the air Netflix.
