Roy Jones Jr on Eubank Jr’s “easy” weight loss and Benn’s strength

Roy Jones Jr has offered two cents for Chris Eubank Jr’s upcoming fight with Conor Benn this weekend – and believes Eubank can’t afford to ignore Benn’s punching prowess.

Jones, who has coached Eubank for his most recent fights but will not be in the corner on Saturday night, told BBC that he saw similarities between Conor and his father Nigel, who was known for his ferocity.

“He loves to fight. He can box – I’m not saying he can’t – but he’ll knock you out like his dad. Not many people stopped Chris Algieri. He made it.

Conor is his dad’s son, if he gets a chance to take you out, he’ll take you out and that’s who he is.

If I were in Chris’ corner, I would keep telling him – listen, don’t let him hit you. Don’t just allow him to hit you. I don’t care that he’s smaller, I don’t care if you don’t respect the power of his punch.”

Weight was a much discussed topic during Eubank and Benn’s meeting, mainly focusing on the Jr aspect and how well he can execute the 157lb limit at 33 years old.

Jones, however, does not foresee the cuts being a problem.

“He can make that weight so easy.”

Eubank will hope Jones is right in that respect, especially after so many videos he has posted on social media involving various lessons, dishes and even a slice of birthday cake!
