Roy Jones Jr has revealed some details about his conversations – or lack thereof – with Anthony Joshua regarding the pair working together.
Joshua has been linked with the undisputed former middleweight champion as a potential coach after the pair are said to have linked up in Abu Dhabi.
However, Jones revealed to Vegas insider that ‘AJ’ has finally decided to go in a different direction, it is now expected to announce that he will be working under Jones’ future compatriot Derrick James.
“We had a few conversations about him coming to Brighton to try me out, to see if we got along well but we didn’t get to that stage, he didn’t go to Brighton. . He went to the United States and met Derrick James before we had a chance to meet.”
“I feel like if you have the right chemistry and connection there’s no need to go back and forth, trying different trainers.”
Jones, who is heading to the UK this weekend to watch Chris Eubank Jr vs Liam Smith, said he wished Joshua all the best for his partnership with James – but the former world champion Unity did not return to him.
