Rove McManus and Tasma Walton raise their daughter free of gender stereotypes


Tasma Walton and Rove McManus have revealed that their young daughter is growing up without being forced to conform to stereotypical ideas about gender.

The 48-year-old former Home and Away star shares eight-year-old Ruby with TV comedian Rove McManus, who is also 48.

The couple, who have been married for 13 years, try to make their family free of the ‘boys and girls’ stereotype.

Tasma told this week’s Stellar Magazine that the idea was first born when a classmate told Ruby that blue was the color of ‘boys’.

‘We’re saying to our little girl, ‘That’s silly, isn’t it? No one has the right to own a color. Anyone can like any color they want,” she said.

“Parents of boys should have those conversations too,” Tasma added.

The star went on to explain that she is not limited to the types of toys or activities her daughter enjoys.

“It’s a fine line to go between acknowledging the reality of the ‘guidelines’ we’re putting in place in society, but also trying to give her the courage and excitement to know that she He’s not bound by those cognitive rules,” she said.

‘Since the choices you make don’t harm anyone else or any other living being, then you can do and be whoever you want to be.’

Rove and his TV star wife, who grew up in Geraldtown, Western Australia, were married in 2009, and the couple share a child.

Media personality known for his weekly evening talk show Rove Live on Network Ten.

The popular segment ran from 1999-2009 before he moved to the US to host Rove LA on Fox8 from 2011 to 2012.

He recently returned to television with guest appearances on The Project.

In 2020, the couple purchased a $2 million home in Perth, after completing the renovation of their $6.4 million mansion in Sydney’s Bronte.
